Green Spring Gardens is a beautiful park located in Alexandria, Virginia. On the grounds, you’ll find abundant flowers, grassy fields, two ponds, nature trails, and the ever popular Moon Gate. There is also a historic home on the property that was initially completed in 1784. It's a charming park that's perfect for outdoor family portraits and engagement photos, which is exactly why H chose it as the location for his proposal to N.
H and I met up on an oppressively hot and humid June morning in preparation for his proposal. Prior to his arrival, I had scouted the grounds and made some recommendations for scenic and secluded spots for the big moment. He selected a perfect spot just to the rear of the historic home on the property, which proved to be a great choice because we could hide out in air-conditioned comfort while we awaited the arrival of N and her friends. H had arranged for N’s friends to take her out for a girls’ morning, ending in a walk at Green Spring Gardens where H would surprise her.
And surprise her, he did! N later said she knew H’s proposal would be coming soon, but she wasn’t expecting him to be waiting for her at Green Spring Gardens. As I always do, I used a zoom lens and did my best to stay out of the way during their moment.
Once the couple has had a chance to celebrate and spend some time together, I like to get a few post- proposal photos. I often schedule longer engagement photo sessions for a separate day when everyone is in the know.
And since I can’t help myself from shooting on film, I got a few shots with my 35mm film camera as well. I always appreciate the subtle differences in the way film captures detail.
Big congrats to H&N on their engagement! If you'd like to inquire about proposal or engagement photography, send me a message and I'll document your special moment with respect and skill.
